AAOSH Second Annual Scientific Session on Oral-Systemic Health

In June of 2012, The American Academy for Oral-Systemic Health held their 2nd Annual Scientific Session at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. The following videos are the interviews that we were able to bring back to you.

 

Dr. Michael Roizen, Chair of the Wellness Institute and Chief Wellness Officer at the Cleveland Clinic, visits with Dr. Michael Milligan, American Academy for Oral Systemic Health board member. They discuss the purpose of the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute, the simple but effective things that you can do to become healthier, and why the Cleveland Clinic has entered into a relationship with the American Academy for Oral Systemic Health. Dr. Roizen sees the dental profession as a highly credible army of individuals that can first get healthy themselves, and then take the wellness message to the entire country and to the world.

Dr. Yiping Han, Professor at Case Western Reserve University, visits with Dr. Mike Milligan, American Academy for Oral Systemic Health board member. She discusses how mild pregnancy-associated gingivitis led to pre-term birth, and led to sudden fetus death at 39 weeks term. She urges women to get their gums healthy before and during pregnancy to avoid tragic complications for the fetus.

Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Director of the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Reversal Program at the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute, visits with Dr. Mike Milligan, American Academy for Oral Systemic Health board member. Dr. Esselstyn discusses cardiovascular disease as a nutritional problem. His program has outstanding results, and an 89% compliance rate.

Dr. Tom Nabors speaks about bringing laboratory science to the dental practice to target the exact causes of decline in oral health.

Physician Bradley Bale, Registered Nurse Amy Doneen, and Dentist Tom Nabors discuss their findings in the application of the oral-systemic link to the practices of dentists and physicians alike. This discussion took place in June of 2012, and they discussed a course they delivered in November of 2012, but the information is still important – and their courses are still being delivered.

Dr. James Wind is a family physician who specializes in sleep apnea in his practice. He talks about ways dentists can use a multidisciplinary approach to work with physicians for treatment of sleep apnea.

Dr. Tony Iacopino is the Dean of Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. He discusses ways to present sleep problems to your patients, among other topics.
